AlienScientist Interview with Frank Znidarsic Part 2 of 2

Posted under computers by krusty on Monday 6 September 2010 at 1:00 am

Frank Znidarsic explains his paper in this exclusive first ever interview! If this new theory turns out to be correct, it will revolutionize modern physics as we know it, bringing us a wave of new technologies just as the original understandings of Quantum Mechanics brought us radio, computers, fiber optics, cell phones, etc. The most profound aspect would have to be the fact that this theory was derived from cold fusion and antigravity experiments. Two of the technologies that will most certainly emerge from this new understanding of the physical laws of atoms. This means no more addiction to oil, and no more need for huge expensive rockets to put people in space. Clean, sustainable energy and a barrage of new propulsion technologies are in store for any understand these new laws and apply them. Not a bad game at all(for now anyway, lolz). AA12′s/Machine Pistols are nuts. Flash grenades don’t stink as much anymore(hitmarkers ftw) and playing against Sleight of Hand/Stopping Power Pro when you have neither is not fun at all =[. 21-1-2 FAMAS Spas-12 w/ Silencer Stuns Frag Scavenger Stopping Power Commando

Lecture 12.3: The Amazing Alan Turing – Richard Buckland (extension lecture) UNSW 2008

Posted under computers by krusty on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 12:33 am

We had a gap at the end of Lecture 12 so Richard gives an unplanned and impromptu talk about some of the contributions of the amazing thinker Alan Turing. So much to say, so little time, such fast talking. We chat about 3 different major contributions he made to the world – his decryption work during WWII and the Engima Machine; his abstract model of a computer (the Turing Machine) and what things can be effectively “computed”; and finally, briefly only, his thoughts about what it is to be human and the difference between humans and computers – the Turing Test. Alan Turing is a key figure in the development of computing, indeed if I had to pick just one thinker who was the most amazing he’d get my vote. Richard promises to talk about the Turing Test in more depth in the next extension lecture. Also comes up: Epimenides paradox, non computable functions, the halting problem, U-559, Colin Grazier GC, Anthony Fasson, GC,Tommy Brown, Blade Runner, CAPTCHAs. Errata: My memory was about as reliable as usual – I said Tommy stayed outside in a boat but i’ve since read that all three swam across and went into the U-559. Humbling bravery. I’ve also since realised that Colin Grazier was from Tamworth in the UK, not the Tamworth in Australia as I had always thought (why are so many English places named after Australian towns?) Finally, something which actually I did know but still managed to get wrong – the important material salvaged was not a cypher machine but quantities of data

Supernatural (go.back.to.sleep.)

Posted under computers by krusty on Saturday 4 September 2010 at 12:19 pm

WARNING!!! BLOOD AND VIOLENCE. AND HOT MEN. Don’t watch unless you’re cool with that. Ok… aside from the nightmare of having to render this in parts and on two computers over a three day period, this was some of the most fun I’ve ever had vidding EVER. As you all know, I’m currently married to my obsession over Supernatural. I’ve done an emotional vid, I’ve done a goofy vid, and I’ve done an AU, so now it’s time for an attempt at down-right-intense. I hope this worked. I wanted to show the creepier side of this show. Yes. I used some clips from My Bloody Valentine. How could I not??? Jensen looks so freaking hawt when he’s a little evil ;) Song is “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums” by A Perfect Circle. Love it. This vid was made for my fellow Supernatural Triplets, Tenesha (kellygirl2002) and Heathyr (ILoveThesePeople). If you know my vids, then it’s highly unlikely that you don’t know theirs, but if by some freak chance you DON’T…. then DO! They are not only two of the best SPN vidders out there, but they are freaking awesome girls and I’m so lucky to know and talk to them. Love you girls oodles. Heathyr… I’m sorry this doesn’t have more Castiel in it… but that hunky angel is like NEVER scary! Even when he’s intense and angry all I wanna do is CUDDLE with him! Naked. Lol. But I DID sprinkle him throughout. Thanks for watching you guys, and for once more putting up with my rambling. I love my subbers. Oh, and sidenote: I’m SO flippin in

Artificial Intelligence: Thinking Big – KQED QUEST

Posted under computers by krusty on Saturday 4 September 2010 at 12:07 am

Though computers have gotten faster, smaller and more versatile, it’s still a big challenge to get them to demonstrate intelligent behaviors. Will machines like robots ever match — or perhaps even exceed — the capabilities of the human brain? QUEST meets a robot that in ten years time could take care of tasks around the house that most of us would rather not do.

History Of Nolan Bushnell: Creator Of Atari and Pong – Part 1

Posted under computers by krusty on Friday 3 September 2010 at 11:53 am

Nolan Bushnell Profile: Nolan K. Bushnell (born February 5, 1943) is an American electrical engineer and entrepreneur who founded both Atari, Inc and the Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza-Time Theaters chain. Bushnell is one of the founding fathers of the video game industry. Bushnell graduated from the University of Utah electrical engineering program in 1968 after he had transferred from Utah State University to University of Utah, and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was one of many computer science students of the 1960s who played the historic Spacewar! game on DEC mainframe computers. The University of Utah was heavily involved in computer graphics research, and spawned a wide variety of Spacewar versions. Bushnell worked at Lagoon Amusement Park for many years while in high school and college in his hometown of Clearfield, Utah. He was particularly interested in the midway arcade games, where theme park customers would have to use skill and luck to ultimately achieve the goal and win the prize. He enjoyed the concept of getting people curious in the game, and from there getting them to pay the fee in order to play the game. He would use his love for games and theme parks to help launch both Atari and Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza-Time Theaters. After selling Atari to Warner Communications for $28 million, Bushnell purchased the former mansion of coffee magnate James Folger in Woodside, California, which he shared with his wife Nancy and their many children.
